Sunday can be a harsh reminder for some people that the weekend has come to an end and it’s time to prepare for the work week ahead. On the other hand, some people see it as a day to relax and refresh and set the tone for the week they want. This can include a morning yoga class, cleaning the house, meal prepping, and so much more. I have definitely joined the Self Care Sunday bandwagon and I have five things that are musts to make it a success.
1. Face Masks are Your Friend
Yes, I’m that cliche person that believes that a good face mask and exfoliation is the staple of a good Self Care Sunday. I’ve used several Freeman Beauty masks because they’re pricing is well within my budget and they have so many options for several skin types. I’ve also looked into making my own face scrubs because they’re so easy and have great benefits, but all in all, I have to start this important day with a good face mask, exfoliation, face roller and moisturizer.
2. Shampoo, Rinse and Repeat
I am far from someone who washes their hair every week and in an ideal world, it would be every two weeks. I typically wear a lot of protective styles, so my hair is honestly not always available for a wash day. However, when I’m feeling like going completely in my Self Care Sunday will start with a good wash and great deep condition. This adds a whole new level to the day and treating your natural hair feels great.
3. At-Home Mani Pedis for the Win
Okay so, I would love to say that I go to the nail salon every two weeks, but that would contradict the open and honest relationship we’re building. Honestly, my nail salon is closed on Sunday’s so there’s my excuse, but I have a foot soaker at home that does wonder so why not pamper myself for, guess what, FREE. All you need, in addition to your foot soaker, is a nail kit that can be found literally everywhere, and your favorite nail polish to get the job done.
4. Your Lips Need Love Too
In conjunction with my face masks, I’ve started to make my own DIY lip scrubs which have become my new favorite thing. They’re literally so easy and I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing my lips felt afterward. The one that’s been my go-to is made from olive oil, honey, sugar, cinnamon and peppermint oil, that’s it! I tested this out when my lips were going through it so I could really see if it works and I literally felt the dead layer of skin scrub right off.
5. Yoga, Meditation and Reading: the Perfect Throuple
As I mentioned in my last post, yoga and meditation are my new favorite ways to start my day on a positive note. Alongside this, I’ve also made it a point to get better with my reading habits and making it a part of my daily routine. I feel like the cherry on top of a perfect self care sundae (see what I did there) is a great stretch, quieting your mind, repeating affirmations, and cuddling up with your favorite book. At the current moment, I am getting my entire life reading The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter–And How to Make the Most of Them Now and I would definitely recommend all my twenty-somethings to start reading it, like now.
Now, these Self Care Sunday activities may not work for everyone or flat out something you won’t do, and that is FINE. All I want from the beautiful young women reading this is for you to have your own Self Care Sunday. Do something or some things that make you happy and make you feel good. All that matters is that you set a positive tone for your new week and take time to yourself before you begin a work/school week of people tugging at you left and right.
